LEGO Technic Robotics
LEGO Technic Robotics was a line of LEGO Dacta, which was based on controlling LEGO models by computer. LEGO Technic Robotics was introduced in 1986. It is actually the precursor to LEGO Mindstorms.
For this, LEGO had developed some special components, such as the LEGO 9750 Interface A and a pressure sensor and an Optosensor.
Using these special elements and the included LEGO LINES software, you could build a real working LEGO robot model, which you could program with the computer. LEGO Technic Robotics was usable for the following computers Commodore 64, Philips P2000, MSX MS/DOS.
LEGO Robotics represents a logical link in the child's developmental stages: it helps them move to a higher level of abstraction.
LEGO Robotics fits perfectly into the drive to pay more attention to technology in secondary education by introducing a special subject dedicated to it. After all, the generation growing up now is entering a society increasingly dominated by technology.
The LEGO 9750 Interface A is connected to the computer. The various models are built using the LEGO Robotics set I or II. LEGO motors and LEGO sensors are connected to the interface. With the LEGO LINES programme, all kinds of control commands can be entered into the computer.
Pupils see direct results of programming in the form of a concrete working model.
Learners recognise that solving a given problem has three dimensions:
- The design dimension (i.e.: the actual structure of the model)
- The mechanical dimension (i.e. where are the motors and sensors fitted)
There are also interfaces with important mathematical and physics concepts. Students better understand the important role and forms of application of computers in society.
The LEGO Courseware Package 1455 contains the necessary material for a series of 10 lessons, starting with simple leading activities. Eventually, large projects based on students' own ideas can be started.
The LEGO 9750 Interface A has two input connectors and six output connectors suitable for ordinary LEGO plugs; Each connector has indicator lights, which illuminate when the connector port is activated by the computer. There is a STOP button that can interrupt the process at any time. The dedicated computer cable and transformer come with the set.
Here you find all sorts of LEGO Technic Robotics sets in my private collection.
